DISTRICT I.

District I is located in Buda and is known as the Castle District. There is a stereotype about this district, that it is a sleepy, boring part of the city that lacks the effervescence that is so typical of our capital. You have to realize that in the case of the 1st district, this stereotype is correct: here we really won't be partying until dawn, the area is sleepy under the veil of night, and the density of services is also lower than in Pest. In return, we get a romantic historical milieu with impressive architecture; if we live here, we can almost feel like a tourist, with whom past centuries come face to face step by step.

Its larger units are the tip of Víziváros, Krisztinaváros, Naphegy, the whole of Taban, including Vérmező, Buda Castle, and a part of Gellérthegy.

Driving in the district is a real challenge due to the castle being partially closed to car traffic, but from the point of view of public transport, we are talking about a very well-served area. The Déli railway station, which many people think of as the XII. district, it officially belongs here, on the other hand, Széll Kálmán tér, which is densely networked with tram and bus lines, is already in II. district. Nevertheless, the latter is just as important, connected to the metro line 2, as the transport hub of the district, as Batthyány tér, which also functions as the HÉV terminus in Szentendre.

Life with babies and strollers is undoubtedly not easy on the many inclines, stairs and cobbled roads. There are playgrounds, for example, the Rumini playground on Mária tér next to Batthyány utca, Pom Pom on Naphegy tér, Gellérthegyi Vuk, and not far from the Matthias Church, we can find the King Matthias Message Board.

And if you are looking for a place to do sports, the Oxygen Wellness Naphegy or the Flex Gym, where Arnold Schwarzenegger himself has already visited, can be a good option.

However, expect that since it is a historical part of the city, the small streets are not crowded with shops, 24-hour bars and various services (although there are hairdressers and beauticians on almost every corner).

District I is home of Budapest’s most beautiful landmarks: Buda Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion, Matthias Church, Statue of Independence, Church of Saint Mary Magdalene, Military History Museum, Hospital in the Rock, Hungarian National Gallery, Northern part of Gellert Hill, Citadel Lookout , Rudas Thermal Baths
